Ok, whether you’re into ancient civs or not, you’ve got to give this a look and listen: The Mesopotamians.mesopotamians

Now that you’ve been properly introduced (and can say all those mouthful Middle Eastern names), believe it or not, here’s a fabulous reading list (yes, they are all “kids” books, and yes, even adults will love them):

  • The Epic of Gilgamesh by Geraldine McCaughrean (really, read this one yourself; better still, read it aloud to your kids, grade 2-ish and up)
  • Gilgamesh the King by Ludmilla Zeman
  • The Revenge of Ishtar by Ludmilla Zeman
  • The Last Quest of Gilgamesh by Ludmilla Zeman (yes, those are 1, 2, and 3 in picture book style with gorgeous illustrations)

And now that you’re on a roll with these big, bad dudes, try:

  • Beowulf by Nicky Raven
  • Beowulf by James Rumford

Really, your children (especially the boys) will thank you!
