In commemoration of the moon landing, here’s an oldie from Bloom County.
The reference is to a children’s picture book, And Tango Makes Three, about two penguins who adopt an egg and raise the hatchling. It just happens that the two penguins are male.
It’s a true animal story, which I’m a sucker for. I don’t like it though because it anthropomorphizes the penguins, which is fine for fictional stories but not for non-fiction (imho).
That’s not why it’s so often banned. I’ll let you figure that one out.
Books are meant to be free!
It’s that time of the year when all good homeschoolers get the heebie-jeebies. Ack! Can I really do this? Ack! What am I going to do this year?Ack! How did it get to be almost August already?
Ack! Ack! Ack!
Now, scroll down the left-hand column until you see “Pages About Babette, Homeschooling, and More.” There’s the list of pages about homeschooling that I’ve compiled (yeah, I’ve homeschooled for 15+ years).
Many are geared for newbies and for Colorado folks–but I hope there’s a little something there for everyone.
It’s a fairly new section so if you don’t see what you’re looking for, drop me an email (email@example.com) and I’ll post something, compliments of this friendly neighborhood children’s librarian!
Just posted a few new books with reviews and recommended age levels to my group, The Passionate Librarian, on Goodreads.com. Take a look!
Take note, too, that the left-hand column here on the blog will show updates as they happen (it also shows what I’m currently reading, adult and YA).
You’re also most welcome to join the group on the Goodreads site as well as RSS there.
I love Goodreads for helping me “remember” books I’ve read–especially my faves or series. (I really need help sometimes. I took a book on vacation and halfway thru realized I had read it before!!!)
